ST. STEPHEN'S PRESCHOOL

CLASSES

PRE-KINDERGARTEN (Age 4 on or before September 1)

Classes meet for 3 hours 2, 3, or 5 days each week.  All classes will provide opportunities for social and emotional growth while helping to prepare children for kindergarten. Children will be introduced to both upper- and lower-case letters through our Handwriting without Tears Program, numbers (1-30), recognition and printing of their first names, identification of basic shapes and colors, patterning and simple mathematical concepts.  Children learn that they are part of a larger group and learn such skills as turn taking, transitioning from one activity to another, cooperation, sharing and empathy for others.

The 2-day class will be slightly abbreviated, providing the essentials necessary to prepare the child who is ready for kindergarten.  The 5-day class will be expanded to offer additional opportunities for growth & development allowing more opportunities for mastering necessary skills. Children enrolled in the 5-day class will have some classmates who also attend all 5 days, some who only come on MWF and others who will only come on TTh. They will have the same teacher all 5 days.

Parents whose children have fall birthdays should consider their child’s maturity level when choosing between this class or the 3-Year-Old class. Children who are old enough to attend kindergarten but would benefit from an additional year may also enroll.

Children are encouraged to explore a variety of subject areas. Social skills are emphasized in this class where colors, shapes and numbers (1-13) are introduce and reinforced. Fine motor skills are developed through many activities that encourage a pincer grasp: scissors, drawing, play-dough, etc. Children’s independence is fostered as they master self-help skills and become more confident when separating from their caregivers. 2-YEAR-OLDS (Age 2 on or before September 1st)

Most of our 2-year-olds begin by attending only 2 days each week in order to help them acclimate to attending school.  New for the 2023-2024 school year we will begin offering a 3 and 5 day option for our youngest students.  Goals for this class include being able to separate from parent(s) or primary caregivers, learning to interact in a group, language development and exposure to age appropriate curriculum such as colors, shapes and numbers (1-3).  Diapers are OK.

PARENT-TODDLER (Age 1 on or before September 1st & walking)

Our weekly 2-hour session will  provide opportunities for new experiences without the child having to undergo separation from their parent or caregiver.   Our parent-tot program serves as a great introduction to preschool for the whole family and helps with transitioning the child into our 2 year-year-old program.

Activities such as exploratory art, music, stories, play-dough and outside fun allow for the parent and child to explore these new activities together.

Class meets on Friday mornings from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

SUMMER FUN PROGRAM

St. Stephen’s will offer a 5 week summer program usually beginning around Mid-June into July.  Our summer program will operate Tues, Wed & Thurs with extended care options available
Students may be enroll for 1-5 weeks.  A discount will be given to anyone who enrolls in all 5 weeks
Our summer school program is similar to our regular schedule, and will be centered around a different theme each week.

Summer information and registration will be available in late March.

2023 Summer Program will run from Tuesday June 20 – Thursday July 20

Summer school is available to children who will be entering our 3-Year-Old program through age 5.

Classes MAY consist of mixed age groups (i.e. older 3 & younger 4 year olds or older 4 & younger 5 year olds) depending on the mix of students who enroll. For the youngest student and those who have not had a previous preschool experience, we strongly suggest that you sign-up for consecutive weeks. The child who is new to preschool may have a hard time readjusting after time off. If you enroll your child in non-consecutive weeks, there is a possibility there will be a change in teacher.
